Triple taper stem philosophy
-Designed for primary hip replacement surgery, the
Profemur® Gladiator® hip stem is a triple tapered
wedge stem with a distinct geometry. The hip stem is
designed with a reduced lateral shoulder convenient
for tissue sparing techniques. In addition to three
point fixation, the stem’s shape also allows for medial
and lateral contact with cortical bone. Plasma spray or
HA coatings and an anteroposterior taper allow for
contact in the frontal plane. Horizontal grooves are
designed to more evenly distribute load forces, while
vertical grooves assist with rotational stability.
Design features
Macro features:
- Horizontal grooves promote proximal load transfer,
while trapezoidal cross-section and vertical grooves
provide rotational stability
Fixation:
- Proximal portion of stems are coated with plasma
spray coating to promote bone apposition via
additional press-fit
Ease of hip stem insertion:
- Facilitated by a bone-conserving, reduced lateral
shoulder and tapered distal geometry
Intraoperative flexibility:
- Cementless and Cemented options utilize the same
instrumentation
Thigh comfort:
- Reduced distal tip to minimize point contact in the
thigh and account for the anatomy of the femur
