Modular fit and fill revision stem philosophy
-Designed to promote fit and fill, the Profemur® R is a
fully modular revision system. The tapered distal
stems are designed to limit distal impingment and
encourage proximal loading. They feature radial
cutting splines to help optimize rotational stability,
plus bowed medium and long options to accommodate
natural femoral curvature. The 8 proximal bodies
feature an ellipsoidal shape designed to minimize
potential for excessive stress on the bone when
inserting the component. Components are securely
mated with the Morse taper connection and an axial
fixation screw.
Design features
Tapered distal stem:
- Aims to limit distal tip impingement and encourage
the proximal loading necessary to reduce stress
shielding (Full bone remodeling may be achieved in
70% of the cases.1)
Diaphyseal fixation:
- Distal stems available in 3 lengths with 13 sizes,
containing radial cutting splines to serve rotational
stability. Bowed medium and long stems can be used
to accommodate the natural femoral curvature4
Metaphyseal fit:
- 8 types of proximal bodies in 3 surface finishing
options (HA, plasma sprayed and grit blasted) and an
ellipsoidal shape to minimize the potential for
excessive stress on the bone when inserting the
component
Morse tTaper connection:
- To provide a solid fixation between proximal and
distal components, with addition of an extra fixation
screw. (No loosening nor failures reported in series
over four2 and ten1 years
Product Options:
- 13 distal stems: short straight, medium bowed, and
long bowed
- 8 proximal bodies (gritblasted, plasma spray or HA
coating)
