The APTIS DRUJ prosthesis is an enclosed joint that allows the patient to experience a renewed range of motion at the level of the wrist. Once implanted, the patient is able to use their hand for turning and, most importantly, for lifting.
• The DRUJ allows rotation of the Radius around the Ulna. This allows you to turn your hand palm up or down (supination/pronation).
• The DRUJ provides support for the Radius from the Ulna when lifting. The ulna acts as a lever in the forearm and a hinge in the elbow that allows you to bend your arm. The radius supports the hand and wrist, but must rely on the ulna for support when lifting in a curling, bending, or even in a straight position. (http://www.aptismedical.com/index.html)
